What is Body Sugaring?
Body Sugaring is a form of skin epilation that is a safe, gentle and effective solution to hair extraction for everyone. Body Sugaring offers numerous unique and diverse benefits, the most important advantage is very fundamental: the Alexandria technique and sugar paste formulation can extract the hair in its natural direction of growth while the hair is still in the early growth stage (Anagen stage). This eliminates hair breakage, unnecessary discomfort, irritation and ingrown hairs while exfoliating dry skin cells.
What is the sugaring product?
The sugaring paste used is a blend of natural ingredients with no chemical additives so there is no fear of any harmful side effects. The application of this unique product will also remove dead skin cells leaving the skin soft, silky and healthy. It is simply sugar, water, and lemon juice. You could eat it, but you probably wouldn’t want to.
Why Alexandria Professional?
Certified Alexandria Practitioners are professionally trained and educated. They are committed to a high standard of service, helping you make Alexandria Professional Body Sugaring™ a part of your regular beauty routine.
What are the main differences between sugaring and waxing?
1. Alexandria Professional Sugaring products do not adhere to live skin cells
This is one of the major differences between sugaring and waxing. Wax products are made of resins which adhere to skin cells. Because wax sticks to any surface it is applied to, pulling it away causes unwarranted pain. Alexandria Professional® sugaring products never adhere to live skin cells, therefore, when it is removed, it only gently exfoliates dead skin cells, leaving behind silky smooth skin.
2. The Alexandria Professional Sugaring Technique extracts hair in its natural direction of growth
When waxing, you remove the hair against the natural direction of growth causing undue levels of pain. With Alexandria Professional®’s sugaring method, you only remove the hair in the natural direction of the hair growth. Plus, through the Alexandria sugaring application technique, the sugar paste seeps into the hair follicle, helping to lubricate the hair root regardless of whether it’s on the legs or anywhere else.
What are the advantages of Body Sugaring?
Pure and Natural Ingredients
Sugaring paste is made from NATURAL INGREDIENTS with no testing on animals and with no harmful side effects caused by allergic reactions. It is so natural you can EAT it!
It Is Not As Hot
The Advanced Sugaring Paste is applied at body temperature making it safe for all areas. It is even safe for spider veins and varicose veins.
It Is Easier To Clean Up
Sugar can be easily cleaned up with water – from both client and clothing. Guests will never feel sticky after treatments.
It Will Not Stick To The Skin
Sugar cannot stick to live skin cells. Live cells are wet, and because sugar is water soluble, it will not adhere to live skin cells.
It Is Environmentally Friendly
The Advanced Sugar Paste can be used over and over on different parts of the body and is discarded after each treatment. It is never used on any other person and the sugar breaks down in the landfill with exposure to water. Wax requires constant dipping for each strip applied and the spatulas, used wax and strips never break down.
It Never Dries
Sugar will not dry so an entire area can be worked over without ever having to walk back to the sugar warmer to dip a spatula or retrieve a strip. Most waxes must be removed immediately before they dry, making the process longer than necessary.
It Will Not Break As Many Hairs
Using the Alexandria Professional Advanced Sugaring Technique, the paste wraps around the hair shaft making it pliable, while seeping below the mouth of the follicle and lubricating the hair to make the extraction more complete and gentle. The hair is eased out of the follicle only in the natural direction of growth, which helps to extract the hair intact. Because of the direction of extraction, the guest feels little, if any, discomfort.
Can Extract Very Short Hairs
The Advanced Sugaring Technique requires less than 1/16 inch or four to seven days growth, after shaving. Wax products require at least two to three weeks of growth before treatment when a client is shaving.
Leads To Permanency
After a number of treatments, the hair follicle begins to deplete. The hair grows in more refined each time. Because sugar can extract the shortest hair, it is possible to extract hair in the early anagen phase, which can lead to permanency. You will see superior results after just a few treatments. After 6 months of regular sugaring every 10 – 14 days, you will experience a 60-80% permanent reduction in hair growth.
What is the AP VIP Rewards Program?
Clients participating in The Full Circle of Skin Conditioning Program will enjoy faster treatments with less pain and better results from the sugaring process. Clients participating in The Full Circle of Skin Conditioning will be invited to join the VIP Service Rewards Program at my discretion. A service sticker will be applied to your VIP card at every appointment, and after 9 treatments you will receive your 10th treatment free.
How do I prepare my skin for sugaring?
Please do not use a razor or depilatory creams between appointments, as this will interfere with your goal to refine and diminish your hair growth and to have smooth healthy skin. Regularly hydrating and exfoliating your skin between sugaring treatments is just as important as receiving treatment. You will receive the best results if your skin is healthy. At your appointment, I will teach you how to care for your skin to maximise your sugaring results. The better your skin, the better your treatment. Avoid lotions with animal or petroleum by-products that can clog follicles and sensitise the skin.
Do not use perfumed soap or products with chemical irritants on sugared areas within 24 hours of your treatment. Do not apply deodorant to underarms for 12 hours after a sugaring treatment. I recommend that you avoid makeup for 12 hours following a facial sugaring treatment.
But I have sensitive skin!
If you experience any discomfort or redness, simply apply CC’me Calming and Cooling balm, formulated to calm and cool your skin before and after hair removal. Essential Tonic and Restore Lotion from your Love My Skin Kit, purchased with your first sugaring treatment. You can also instantly calm your skin with the excellent Mud Puddle® Hungarian Wellness Mud™.
How can I ease the discomfort of hair removal?
Alexandria Professional has formulated a product called CC’Me (Calm and Cool Me) to calm and cool your skin before and after removing your hair. It is a pure and natural blend of Shea butter, Carapa Procera Oil (a fruit sourced in Africa whose oil has invigorating, emollient, nourishing and analgesic properties), sunflower seed oil and others. Apply CC’Me 15 minutes prior to your sugaring treatment to ease discomfort and calm potential reactions on all areas of the body. Apply post-treatment by massaging a small amount of CC’Me to the treatment area.
What is the Full Circle of Skin Conditioning?
This program has been designed to optimise the condition of your skin between each sugaring treatment. These recommendations will also help to eliminate and prevent ongoing ingrown hair problems.
The four components of the Full Circle of Skin Conditioning Program
- Sugar: Extracts all hair as it decongests follicles of accumulated debris and conditions the skin
- Detox: Detoxifies follicles to ease out ingrown hairs, balances the skin tone and calms the skin
- Restore: Softens and repairs hair follicles damaged by ingrown hairs and other skin related factors
- Exfoliate: Exfoliate to release ingrown hairs and clear a path at the follicle mouth for easy passage of new hair growth
Love Your Skin Every Day
The basis of any skincare regime is cleansing, toning, and moisturising. These are the three steps to loving your skin and the foundation of the Full Circle of Skin Conditioning program. Alexandria Professional pre and post sugaring products have been specifically developed for hair removal, however, they are extremely effective for general face and body care.
The products inside the I Love My Skin kit are:
- Presept Skin Cleanser
- Essential Tonic
- Restore Hydrating Lotion
Presept Skin Cleanser
This gentle, non-abrasive cleanser is anti-microbial and has been formulated to remove oils, dirt and bacteria from the skin. Presept is concentrated and is ideal for removing makeup, underarm deodorant and even sunscreen. As a daily skin cleanser, a little goes a long way. Spray your Presept on to wet spa massage gloves in the shower, or on to a dampened face cloth to cleanse the face. Do this once daily for the body, and twice daily for the face.
Essential Tonic possesses anti-microbial, antiseptic, anti-fungal, anti-viral, cicatrizant (cell-regenerating) and anti-inflammatory properties. It soothes and calms the skin and helps to reduce redness post-treatment. This product has been formulated to open the cuticle of the hair-shaft, enabling the sugar paste to more effectively grip the hair. It is also useful for healing sunburn, acne and will also soothe athlete’s foot. Use it on eczema, psoriasis, nappy rash, cuts and even shaving rash.
Restore Hydrating Lotion
This non-comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores) lotion protects your skin (including sensitive skin) from dryness and is formulated with transdermal characteristics for easy absorption. Restore consists of several calming and soothing ingredients and is lightweight for easy absorption. It is effective on the face and body.
If your skin has been softened and exfoliated with a sugaring treatment, it is the perfect time for the detoxifying and drawing powers of this mud in a mask or a soak. Masking always follows exfoliation to enable maximum absorption of the active ingredients in your mask. Rich in natural minerals, let it penetrate and lift away your dead skin cells. Mud Puddle is recommended for the relief of sunburns and can be used to simply rejuvenate the skin from head to toe. Ideally, use Mud Puddle after your sugaring, and after your exfoliation step. Always finish with Restore Hydrating Lotion.

Why shouldn’t I use a lotion from the supermarket?
There are two kinds of moisturiser on the market, water-based and oil-based. You can find out whether the moisturiser you’re using is water or oil-based simply by looking at the list of ingredients. Water-based moisturisers will have water or aqua listed as the first ingredient, whereas oil-based moisturisers will have oil as its first ingredient. Both types of moisturisers may even have similar ingredients beyond that, including; emollients, which soften the skin, and humectants, which help the skin draw and trap moisture from the air. Water-based moisturisers will not cause breakouts because water does not bind itself to the skin as easily, unlike oil which can stick inside pores and cause blockages. If you have sensitive skin, water-based moisturiser may cause irritation if it contains ingredients that create a fragrance, dyes for colour, or alcohol. Generally speaking, water in oil formulations are relatively inexpensive to make as the oils used are usually petrochemical derivatives. An oil in water formulation is more difficult to achieve, and this tends to be reflective of its price. When it comes to moisturisers, you really do get what you pay for.
There are also two types of skin dryness: oil dryness and water dryness. Water dryness is called dehydration. Dehydration occurs mainly from inadequate water intake, exposure to extreme weather such as heat, cold or wind, harsh cleansers and the ageing process. As we age, we begin to lose our youthful smooth-skin appearance because we tend to produce fewer natural moisturising factors. This results in the skin’s inability to hold enough water in the surface cells, making the skin dry, flaky, tight and dull looking.
If your skin is dehydrated, the sugar will need to be moulded more times to help it penetrate the follicles to get the desired results of sugaring. This means your treatments will take longer and may not be completed during the allocated time. Dehydrated skin tends to grip the hair tightly, making it more difficult to extract the first few times. It is also a major cause of ingrown hair. With regular sugaring treatments and a consistent home-care regime using the I Love My Skin trio, we can address this skin condition together and get you on your way to hair-free and well-conditioned ingrown-free skin.
I have to go out after my appointment, will my face be red?
To quickly reduce redness in this area, I apply a Mud Puddle mask immediately following treatment or apply it at your convenience at home with our Mud Puddle®.
Please be aware that you may develop a few white pustules in this area following your first and second treatments. This can be treated and even prevented by soaking a cotton pad in a mixture of Saltspring and water and applying it to the treated area for 5 minutes following treatment. I will apply this cooling and calming compress to your skin after your first two facial sugaring treatments. If you would like to continue this post-treatment procedure at home, you will need to use 1 tablespoon of Saltspring to half a cup of cool or lukewarm water.
Can I sugar while menstruating?
I suggest that you do not schedule your appointments to coincide with your menstrual cycle, as you may be more sensitive. Please contact me as soon as possible to reschedule your appointment should you need to.
Help! I have small red spots on my skin!
Tiny red spots may appear on the skin for a few hours after your treatment. If this should happen, do not be alarmed, this is a natural reaction caused when a hair is removed by the root, it will disappear quickly. The bigger the root, the bigger the spot, as your hair becomes refined, the spots will become smaller.
When should I avoid sugar?
The following conditions should not be sugared:
- Enlarged Varicose veins
- New scars
- Sunburned skin
- The inner ear
- Network beards
- Bruises or lesions
- Skin tags
- Raised moles
If you are using the following on your skin, you are ineligible for sugaring:
- Retin-A Treatments, including enzyme peels, glycolic peels, AHA’s and any similar products. Discontinue use for 5-7 days before sugaring – patch test required before sugaring
- Vitamin C – patch test required
What is The Permanent Reduction Program?
Because sugar doesn’t require 4-6 weeks of growth in order to pick up the hairs (3mm is all that’s needed), we are able to continually catch the hair in the active growth (anagen) phase. This is ideal because the hair is attached to the Dermal Papilla. It means the hair bulb is at its largest size and when extracted the follicular cycle is interrupted, resulting in the partial removal of the follicle wall, thus destroying the root source (the matrix). Regular extraction in the early anagen stage results in the continual deterioration (or depletion) of the follicle, which in turn leaves a smaller diameter allowance for the next hair to grow in. This usually results in instant and continued refinement of the hair and leads to the collapse of the follicle and the depletion of matrix cells (permanent hair removal).
As follicle depletion varies not only between each individual but also from each body part, it is impossible to state exactly how long this process will take, however undertaking the Permanent Reduction Program for a period of 6 months (or 12 treatments spaced 10-14 days apart) will guarantee a permanent reduction in hair that grows at the regular rate of 60-80%.
Clients participating in The Permanent Reduction Program will need to identify the area(s) to be sugared as part of the program. The cost will be 10x whatever the total of one treatment for the specified area(s). Clients will be given a Permanent Reduction Program card and 12 appointments will be made at intervals of 10-14 days. It is imperative that this schedule is adhered to for the entire 6 month period in order to achieve the 60-80% reduction in growth. Clients participating in The Permanent Reduction Program will receive their 6th and their 12th appointments free. Payment for The Permanent Reduction Program must be made in full prior to commencement or at the first appointment. Clients are required to bring the Program Card to every appointment as proof of payment.
